THE LOCOMOTOR SYSTEM ALLOWS US TO MOVE
OUR LOCOMOTOR SYSTEM HAS THREE PARTS:
1. BONES
2. MUSCLES
3. JOINTS
shoulder
elbow
wrist
Joints in the hand
hip
knee
ankle
Joints in the foot
BONES, MUSCLES AND JOINTS WORK TOGETHER TO MOVE OUR BODY
FUNCTIONS OF THE SKELETON
SUPPORT OUR BODY
PROTECT THE DELICATE ORGANS INSIDE OUR BODY
THE SKULL PROTECTS THE BRAIN
THE RIBS PROTECT THE HEART AND THE LUNGS
I hope you enjoy this vedeo!!
1. BONES
BONES ARE HARD AND RIGID (THEY DO NOT BEND)
TYPES OF BONES:
1. LONG BONES: HUMERUS, RADIUS, ULNA, FEMUR, TIBIA, FIBULA.
2. SHORT BONES: BONES IN HANDS AND FEET
3. FLAT BONES: SKULL, STERNUM, SCAPULA, PELVIS.
2. MUSCLES
MUSCLES ARE SOFT AND ELASTIC.
MUSCLES MOVE THE BONES BY CONTRACTING AND RELAXING.
FOR EXAMPLE, IN THE ARM, WHEN THE BICEPS CONTRACTS, THE TRICEPS RELAXES AND WHEN THE TRICEPS CONTRACTS, THE BICEPS RELAXES.
TYPES OF MUSCLES
1. VOLUNTARY MUSCLES: OUR BRAIN CONTROLS ITS MOVEMENT.
FOR EXAMPLE: BICEPS, TRICEPS, DELTOIDS, CALF MUSCLES...
2. INVOLUNTARY MUSCLES: THEY MOVE AUTOMATICALLY.
FOR EXAMPLE: HEART, MUSCLES IN THE STOMACH, INTESTINES...
3. JOINTS
JOINTS CONNECT BONES.
THERE ARE 3 TYPES:
1. FLEXIBLE/MOVABLE JOINTS: ALLOW OUR BONES TO MOVE A LOT: ELBOWS, KNEES, SHOULDERS.
2. SEMI-FLEXIBLE/SEMI-MOVABLE JOINTS: LET OUR BONES TO MOVE A LITTLE: SPINE.
3. FIXED JOINTS: THEY CAN'T MOVE: JOINTS IN THE SKULL
BONES OF THE SKELETON
MUSCLES OF THE BODY
